Today, 19/10/07, the new committee received Green Party TD, Mary White, into the school for a talk on green matters. This was part of their initiative into obtaining the renewal of the Green Flag.

Details of the Eco Schools web site are linked here.

New Green Flag Committee with
Mary White TD, Bernie Mullins and Paul Cummins

Mary gave an interesting Green speech followed up with an invitation to the Dail and
an opportunity to ask a question through her to the House.

The children asked many very thoughtful questions so instead of the Taoiseach's
question time in the house it was Mary's question time in the school.

Solar heating will be a feature of the school's green approach and fund raising
is in hand for this - any offers?

Ballon National School are awarded The Green Schools Flag

The Staff & Board of Management of
Scoil Naomh Peadar's Pol, Ballon
had a great day on the 3rd June, 2005
with the official presentation of the Green School Flag by
Minister of the Environment, Heritage & Local Government
Mr. Dick Roche, T.D
Local councilors from the Tullow area also lent their support.

The Minister together with the Chairman of Carlow County Council
are enthusiastically assisted by the students in raising the flag.

The Schools Green Flag is presented to a school once it can demonstrate that it is playing a part in the National Campaign for a cleaner, tidier environment.
This particularly concerns the use of recycling where the school reduced
the waste by 50%.
It also includes litter control, flower planting, reclaiming waste space.
