At the end of 2005 Michael purchased 'Buggy's Shop' next door and refurbished both into one dynamic unit.

McAssey opened his shop in 1985.
It was a butcher's shop previously in the name of Pat Nolan and was
part
of the adjacent shop (now Buggy's).
Before that it was the village post office owned and run by Jim &
Lizy Casey.Prior to that owned by Mrs. Casey's father, Jimmy Doran.
Michael knows all his customers by name and also knows the car they
drive.
His reputation is such that a local customer who moved to Dublin
still travels to Ballon to buy her meat.
