At the school assembly this morning the pupils had the opportunity to hear the school debating team give their reasons that children should not be forced to do chores. If you want an example of self confidence, presentation and good arguement then watch this 10 minute video.

On Wednesday the 14th of December Ballon National School’s KHA (Kenya Helpers Association) Choir performed a carol service in the church. The choir was conducted by Rose Whelan and accompanied on guitar by John and Sean Whelan and on the flute and percussion by Colm McElwee. In between the songs sung by the choir were some poems and reflections composed and read by some of Ms Leigh’s second class’ some of Mrs. Nolan’s second and third class and some of Mrs. Townsend’s third class. A piano solo was played by Grainne Mullins. Edelle Morrissey was MC for the night and did a great job. Mr. Heffernan finished the night by some well deserved thank yous to Mrs. Mullins, Paul Cummins, Edelle Morrissey, the choir, the children from second and third class, Nuala Quirke, the parents, Rose Whelan, Grainne Mullins, John Whelan, Sean Whelan, Colm McElwee, Michael Martin and Gerry Maher.

The school held its annual Mini Christmas Fair this afternoon. Bernie supervised from her wheelchair. Rose kept the choir in good voice. Fr. Jim didn’t manage wheelchair duties appropriately as he wanted to do ‘wheelies’.

Song for ’16 All Island Song Competition.

The KHA Choir of Ballon National School has been selected to perform in this competition at the National Concert Hall on Sunday 15th May 2016. The song “Cherish all the People” was composed and written by the choir with guidance from John Whelan and was nominated by the selection committee.
