A day out with Carlow Auto Grass

AUTOGRASS RACING - update 29/9/09

Two local girls figured prominently when the results of the All-Ireland Autograss series, run at various centres over three two-day meetings, were announced.
Emma Hutton, Kilnock was placed third while her sister, Bridget, finished just one place behind her in the overall standings.
Both girls are members of the Carlow Autograss Club which has its headquarters locally at Aghade.
Their father, Noel, is a former National champion while their brother, Brian, has also won awards in the National Series.

On the 20th April 2008 I spent another day watching the skills and cheek of some of the drivers as they competed fiercely for the coveted prize. Tyres and cones were spent spinning in one of the races adding to the risk and testing driver skills.

On the 23rd April 2007 I spent a thrilling day at the monthly meeting of Carlow Auto Grass at the invitation of local man Noel Hutton. Noel is the assistant track manager and his son Brian is the treasurer with his partner Lisa Doran as vice treasurer.

The track is located just outside of Ardattin and about 3 km from Ballon. On the day there were over 100 cars and many camper vans overlooking the track. A family day for drivers and spectators.

I was impressed with the safety aspects, the organisation and the good humour ; and would recommend it as a good day out.
