The church choir is re-establishing itself and some of the members are seen here as they performed for the awarding of the Benemerenti medals to-day.

This is the nucleus of what promises to be a great choir judging by the volume and three part harmony heard today.

Ray Butler wrote the harmonies and played the organ on the day accompanied by Caroline Byrne on the violin and flute.

Deirdre Nolan who normally plays the keyboard couldn’t make it, unfortunately, but – she’ll be back.

The choir would benefit from some more singers and instrumentalists and if you are interested please contact Ann Butler at 086 1999658

11/2005

Late November 2005, at the request of Fr. Whelan, a group of willing young people came together to form and participate in Ballon’s new choir and folk group. We have approximately 20 people ranging from the age of 10 years and upwards both men and women.
With Gillian on the organ, Caroline on the violin and myself, Leslie-Anne on the guitar we provide a great range of music for the group and the instrumentalists throughout the Mass.
We are a tight knit group who work very well together combining all our talents and this, in turn, gives us the opportunity to be original and thankful for the gifts we’ve been given.

Since starting we have received great acclaim, from people visiting the parish, on our great singing and musical abilities. We always welcome newcomers and encourage the congregation to join in with the hymns they are familiar with. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Fr. Whelan for accessing an amazing sound system that enables our voices and music to be heard on local radio 107.6 every Sunday morning It has been an immense help to us us and we are grateful.
Last, but not least I would like to thank Kathleen, our sacristan, for her co-operation and support.
