On Thursday evening, the launch took place of the Fairy/Pollinator garden on Ballon Hill. In spite of the unaccommodating weather, there was a good turnout, with many of the children dressed up for the event. A special welcome was given to those Ukrainians temporarily located in the Hall. and on completion, there were goodies for drinks and snacks in the tent with live music. Counsellor John Murphy gave the official opening speech with a cautionary warning not to upset the fairies. This event will be included with BIGs entry in the Tidy Towns pollinator entry.

Today the 6th class made a trip to the Barrack Stream in Michael Martin’s garden to learn about the importance of good quality water in our rivers and streams. The mentors were Michael and Anne from the Local Authority Waters Programme. Everyone was amazed and excited by the amount of life discovered and identified lying just below the bed of the stream. And, as a bonus, one boy caught a pinkeen.
Then it was to Breda’s for lunch in her lovely garden.
