KILBRIDE
CELEBRATE 2008 WITH SILVERWARE:

Kilbride GFC celebrated one of the most successful years in the club’s
long and proud history in the Seven Oaks Hotel, Carlow on Friday night,
January 30 where pride of place went to the Intermediate Trophy which
was on display at a Kilbride Dinner for the first time in 35 years.
The club’s annual award winners were also announced at the function
which was attended by 160 friends and supporters.
Brendan Hennessy, acting as MC for the night, welcomed everyone and
expressed his delight at seeing such a large turnout for a very special
occasion. Apart from winning their first IFC since 1974, Kilbride were
also celebrating the reaching of the FL Div 1 final in 2008, just one
season after being promoted to the top flight of football after a 37
year absence.
Outlining the clubs successes in 2008, chairman Tom Butler said that
this Kilbride team is quite capable of winning the Senior Football Championship
in 2009 if everyone gives the same commitment as in 2008 and with the
experience gained from last year there is no doubt that this team can
go all the way.
Pat Deering, chairman, Carlow County Board, thanked the club for inviting
him to the function and congratulated the club on winning the Intermediate
Championship and reaching the League Final. He said the team had put
in some fantastic displays during their run to the final where they
gave one of the best displays seen for many a year. There is no doubt
that you can achieve your goal of winning the SFC in 2009 given the
fact that you have a blend of experienced and young players on your
panel and a trainer in Anthony Curry who will give 100%, he said.
Fr. Fleming PP Clonegal also thanked the club for the invitation and
he, too, praised the players for the commitment they had shown throughout
the year and he wished the club every success in the year ahead.

The Intermediate player of the year award went to Seamus Gray, Milltown
for his outstanding displays throughout the year. The junior player
of the year went to Shane Cranny while the choice for the young player
of the year award was Darragh Foley. The statuettes presented to the
award winners were sponsored by Liam Foley (Mr Minit) Carlow.
