The Parents Association of the school would like to thank all the local businesses who kindly donated prizes for our draw card. Thank you to Rachel Pilkington who arranged for her colleagues from “Fair City” to come and play a charity basketball match in the hall which was a thrilling encounter to watch. Ballon NS Summer Fete took place on Fri 20th June. The weather was fabulous & we had 22 stalls this year including 3 bouncing castles, Bric a Brac, Bottle Stall, Giant Games such as Milking Cows & The Detonator, Duck racing, Penalty shoot out, plus many more.
The front yard was set up with tables & chairs to take advantage of the sunshine & all the food on offer, with a choice of BBQ, strawberries, ice cream, pancakes & tea/coffee. A DJ played lively summer music throughout which added to the fun atmosphere. To add to the excitement the Cast Members of Fair City came along to meet & greet all present and were welcomed by a large cheering crowd. They spent an hour chatting to everyone and having photos taken before taking part in a Charity Basketball Match in the Community Hall against the Staff of Ballon NS, to raise money for a new library in the school. This event was the brainchild of our own local Fair City Actor, Rachel Pilkington who together with Karen Curry, Chairperson of the Parents Association put together a unforgettable night of entertainment. The Hall was thronged with supporters and the cheers of all present could be heard around the village. Both sides put on a terrific display of their basketball skills with the final score 35 to the Teachers & 26 to Fair City. Both teams were presented with medals and then retired to Ballykealey Manor Hotel for food & drinks, where John Kelly played music into the early hours for all present to end off a truly wonderful event raising more than €1200!

Following the First Holy Communion ceremony in Ballon on Saturday last all families were invited to the traditional celebration in Ballon Community Centre organised by the Ballon National School Parents Association. The First Communants were given the opportunity to socialise and take photographs with their friends while parents, grandparents, god parents and family members mingled over a cup of tea, sandwiches and beautiful confectionary.
The Committee of Ballon National School Parents Association would sincerely like to thanks all the parents who came and helped in so many different ways from preparing the hall, to making sandwiches, providing beautiful home baking, other goodies for the kids, to serving teas and the wash up. A special thanks to Michael McAssey for his generosity and help all day.
This was a wonderful occasion and showed our community spirit in a wonderful light.
