Runners, joggers, walkers, cyclists, children aplenty and even the odd dog or two turned up to take part in the fun at Morris Park on St Stephen’s Day for the annual Ballon GFC Turkey Trot. The good weather enticed a large crowd out to take on the 6K round trip, most at their own pace and leisure and all happy and full of the good will of the Xmas period.

Seamus English Hayden was(not suprisingly) the 1st serious contender home to retain the title he captured first in 2013 and regained last year and his time was a very respectable 19 minutes and 20 seconds. He was followed home by Padraig George on 19 minutes and 42 seconds with Paddy Byrne arriving 2 minutes and 39 seconds later.

First of the ladies home was Aileen Gittens on 19 minutes 28 seconds, followed by her sister Anne Marie on 20 minutes exactly and Eimer Fanning on 24 minutes 30 seconds.

Congratulations to all who took part and who all thoroughly enjoyed the ample refreshments afterwards in the clubhouse and all the children taking part can boast of having a medal to prove their achievement. Thanks so much to those who helped out with the arrangements and stewarding and particularly to the ladies who ensured that the refreshments flowed freely afterwards.
